Paul McCloskey aiming for shot at world title by end of 2011 against anyone – Boxing news
The former British light welterweight champion and the current European light welterweight champion, Paul McCloskey, is aiming towards a world title shot at the end of 2011 and he is ready to take on anyone for that.
The Dudey, McCloskey is currently set to face the Colombian pugilist Breidis Prescott in their World Boxing Association’s eliminator on September 10, 2011 at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.
The 28-year-old Bradley, who is the only man to defeat Amir Khan, has won 24 of his 26 professional fights, with 19 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout and has a reputation of being a devastating puncher. However, the Northern Ireland’s warrior, McCloskey, thinks Bradley is only a stepping stone for him, which will get him a world title shot.
“I am fighting Prescott as it propels me up the world title ladder,” McCloskey told World Boxing News.
McCloskey has tasted defeat only once out of his 23 professional fights and it was against the unified World Boxing Association’s and International Boxing Federation’s World Light Welterweight champion, Amir Khan, who stopped McCloskey in six rounds.
However, the Irishman still reckons Khan would not take a chance to face him again in the ring, as he believes he at times almost schooled the Britain’s best.
While speaking on his inclusion, he told WBN, “I would love the rematch with Khan but I doubt that he would take the risk again. The Khan that faced Prescott was way different than the one I faced. I made him look very amateurish at times and didn't get a chance to finish job.”
In the end, McCloskey claimed he is ready to take on anyone and it is going to be a lot easier for him if he gets a rematch with Amir Khan.
McCloskey further told WBN, “I want to be world champion and I don't care who I have to fight to get there. If it's Khan that's all the sweeter but I will fight anyone.”
