Paul McCloskey vs. Julio Diaz on May 5 – Boxing News
Paul McCloskey, light welterweight contender, will be facing former IBF lightweight champion, Julio Diaz on May 5 in Northern Ireland, UK, at the Kings Hall, Belfast. This will be McCloskey’s first title fight since his bout against Breidis Prescott, which
he won through a controversial 12 round decision in September 2011, in a WBA light welterweight eliminator bout.
McCloskey currently stands with 23 wins, 1 loss and 12 knockouts in his bag, whereas Julio Diaz has bagged 38 wins, 7 losses and 27 knockouts throughout his career. According to most analysts, this is a ditch, which McCloskey should have stayed away from
since beating Diaz is not as easy as McCloskey is expecting. McCloskey is known for his low punching ability, which makes him vulnerable to Diaz, who is a savage fighter when it comes to brutally beating his opponent.
Even though Julio Diaz is looking at his best right now, it should be noted here that he lost three of the fast five fights he has been into. He lost a fight against Juan Diaz on HBO after which he disappeared from the scene. He is no longer considered among
the best among IBF lightweights and he was once the IBF lightweight titleholder.
He also lost to Rolando Reyes and Victor Cayo, but was successful in his next two. He was the one who ended Herman Ngoudjo’s career. McCloskey also had a TKO-3 knockout failure last year in a bout against Kendall Holt on Friday Night Fights. Some analysts
are also of the view that even if McCloskey wins, it will not give a boost to his career.
In addition, Martin Lindsay vs. John Simpson will also be on the card.
McCloskey is currently trying his level best to get back his lost pride. However, considering his recent performances and his attitude, it seems like he is not all ready to take on an opponent like Julio Diaz. It is important for both he fighters to grab
the win this time in order to ensure stability in their careers. The one who loses will further go down the rails.
