Paul Mcginley, Adam Scott score 1-under 71 each in the first round of the Ballantine’s Championship
Paul Mcginley shot a 1-under 71 in the first round of the Ballantine’s Championship, as he finished three strokes behind the leader Victor Dubuisson.
The 45-year-old Irish professional golf player scored three birdies and two bogeys on Thursday, at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
He turned professional in 1991, and has won 9 professional events. Of the total victories, four were recorded on the European Tour. He recorded five wins in other tournaments.
The weather was unfavourable on April 26, as heavy winds were blowing on the course and the cold adversely affected most of the golf players as well.
In the past, he was suffering from chronic knee injuries, but has now recovered perfectly. He did not face any trouble due to the injury and fought well against other rivals in South Korea.
"I shortened my schedule a little at the start of this season and I've definitely reaped the benefit. I'm really with my knee," Mcginley said. "The biggest challenge now is not physical, it's mental -- trusting it and getting onto my left side (in the swing)".
McGinley added, "I've only played four events this year. From Wentworth on, I'll play a full schedule, the tournaments I normally play. Hopefully, I'll be nice and fresh this year".
Adam Scott, the 31-year-old Australian professional, is sharing the position with McGinley. Scott also scored a 1-under 71 and competed well for the title.
The 8-time PGA Tour and European Tour winner carded four impressive birdies and one bogey. He recorded a good performance, however, making one double-bogey on the 10th hole caused a dent in his position on the leaderboard.
Victor Dubuisson is currently leading the European Tour event in South Korea. He scored well and impressed the spectators with appealing strokes.
He shot a 4-under 68 in the first round and scored eight massive birdies throughout the first day. He made two bogeys and one double-bogey as well.
The competition is tough and most of the players are giving their best shot in South Korea. The upcoming two rounds will be more difficult than the previous one.
To secure and improve their leaderboard positions, all the players have to be extra impressive on the course in the upcoming rounds.
