Paul Millsap, C.J. Miles help Utah Jazz decimate Los Angeles Clippers 108 – 79 – NBA Recap
Los Angeles Clippers have been flying high this season and notched up memorable victories over strong opposition already. Their roster was bolstered in the off season with some high profile arrivals and the effects have been positive thus far.
In comparison, the Jazz pretty much have had to build on their resilience and teamwork in the absence of real star power. On Tuesday night though the Jazz stunned their high flying opponents, sending them crashing out for a 108 – 79 battering.
Los Angeles were missing super star point guard Chris Paul due to injury, but they still wouldn’t have expected to be hammered by the Jazz at the EnergySolutions Arena. It was however out of their hands because no one in the team got going on the night.
Sensational forward Blake Griffin was uncharacteristically quiet, scoring just 10 points and collecting 11 boards in around 27 minutes on the court. Veteran guard Chauncey Billups also could manage only 10 points of a poor 3-for-12 from the field. Caron
Butler, another who usually shares the scoring burden, could also only manage 14 points.
On the other hand, in form forward Paul Millsap was in the zone for the Jazz. He top scored in the game with 20 points and also collected 6 rebounds. C.J. Miles came off the bench to provide impetus with 19 points and centre Al Jefferson secured a double-double
with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
From the starting whistle, it was clear that the game was only ever going to go Utah’s way. The Jazz jumped on their opposition right at the beginning and produced a swashbuckling display in the first period, scoring 29 points against 17 by the Clippers.
Los Angeles managed to match Utah in the second period but were unable to claw down their lead, going into the break at 52 – 41.
The Clippers came out after the break looking determined to get back in the game, and they made early strides, putting some points together and cutting the deficit to single figures. That though did not last, as the Jazz responded with some vicious attacks
in the later part of the quarter and actually took their lead to 20 points just before the end.
The final quarter began with Los Angeles trailing by 19 points and 78 – 59. Relief though wasn’t to be found in the penultimate period as Utah just kept piling on the misery, accumulating 30 points to hand the Clippers a humiliating 108 – 79 defeat.
