Paul Nicholls picks Wincanton for Kauto Star’s work – Horseracing Update
The champion trainer, Paul Nicholls, has decided to gallop his star gelding, Kauto Star, at Wincanton with Mon Parrain on the coming Friday instead of running him at home with Big Buck’s.
The aim behind opting for Wincanton venue is to prepare the dashing horse properly for the upcoming mega event of Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup.
As Kauto Star is heading the market with 4-1 starting price for the high-profile Grade 1 contest of March 16, his trainer is keen to leave no loophole unfixed while preparing the legendary runner.
Nicholls wants his veteran pupil to lift the title of the Gold Cup at every cost and complete another magnificent hat-trick of his success-studded career.
In the Cheltenham race of 3m2f110y distance, Kauto Star is set to compete against 33 runners. The thrilling competition will begin at 3:20 (GMT) on Friday.
Earlier, Kauto Star was scheduled to gallop with his stable mate, Big Buck’s, at the home ground on Saturday but Nicholls changed the plan suddenly last night.
While speaking to the media, the trainer said, “I can reveal that we have had a change of plan over the so-called 'D-Day' home gallop on Saturday. Kauto Star will now gallop after racing at Wincanton on Friday instead.”
He expressed complete confidence on the horse’s skills, anticipating that the experienced runner would surely bring home the ace title.
“We gave him two strong canters up the hill alongside my Fred Winter hopeful Ulck Du Lin. And again I have to report that he came through it fine and I'm happy with him at the moment. We aren't, just yet. But we are heading in the right direction quickly,
it seems,” stated Nicholls.
Since the very beginning of his career in March 2003, Kauto Star has been winning consistently. He has long success streaks to his credit.
In his last two outings during November-December 2011, the maverick gelding finished first each. As a whole, he has won 23 out of his total 40 starts so far.
With Gold Cup marathon just a few days away, Kauto Star is geared up to demonstrate a big run at Cheltenham. All odds go to his favour and the stage is set for his success.
