Paul Nicholls targets the Future Champions Finale Juvenile Hurdle through Caid Du Berlais

The champion trainer, Paul Nicholls, has targeted another spectacle of the National Hunt season and is focusing on the Future Champions Finale Juvenile Hurdle. For the Grade 1 event at Chepstow, the trainer has picked out Caid Du Berlais. The Coral sponsored
race is one of those fortunate races which were rescheduled for this weekend after moving from the 27th December card.
The four-year-old French bay gelding has been handling the heavy ground in France with high conviction and there is no doubt in the form of the Paul Nicholls’ trained. This one race title has failed to make to the hall mark trainer’s stable.
Nicholls said: "Caid Du Berlais has winning form on heavy ground in France and his last two starts when placed have been pretty good as he was second in a Listed hurdle at Auteuil last September.”
"He has schooled well at home and I would be fairly hopeful he can go very well as he has experience on his side and conditions look ideal for him.”
Two seasons back, the trainer sent Sam Winner and Dolatulo to the field and they ended home fourth and fifth. In 2008, the five-time winning trainer of the King George, sent the most popular entry, backed by 5 to 2, Pepite De Soleil, but even he failed to
bring back the honour to the yard.
Last time the four-year-old gelding was active in the Prix Robert LeJeune (Hurdle) on 25th September, 2012 at Auteuil race course over two miles and two furlongs.
He qualified as the runner-up after missing the winner’s mark by six lengths.
The Paul Nicholls’ trained has been in-form under a different set of circumstances and is bound to intervene some hard core competition at Chepstow.
He will need to look out for the Tim Vaughan trained, Swnymor.
The trainer commented:
"He has an entry at Sandown on Saturday as well but we are definitely favouring running him at Chepstow as we think he wants testing ground as it was very soft when he won nicely at Newbury.”
The four-year-old bay gelding won as the favourite of the Blackmore Building Juvenile Hurdle on 19th December, 2012 at Newbury over two miles and half-furlong.
