Wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 contract, which will keep him at Grace Road until the end of the 2011 season.
Many had tipped Nixon to finish his career at the end of the last season but his new deal means he will become one of the only players in history to have a career covering four decades.
"I am delighted to sign a new deal and I can honestly say that I am as excited now as when I started my professional career in 1987. After winning seven Championship games last season, we feel we can push
on and are desperate to reach Division One status," said Nixon.
This is very good news for the club because Nixon offers many different qualities as a member of the squad. However, next season could well be his last in the first-class game.
Different qualities
Nixon has played a total of 351 first-class games during his career. This is a figure that no other player at Leicestershire can get close to. It proves that Nixon is a trusted and experienced professional.
He can use this experience to help coach and guide younger players at the county. He will already be working on his coaching skills for when he retires and he's in a better position to improve the technique
of teenage batsmen at the county than anyone else.
Nixon has managed to stay fit even though he is now over the 40 years old mark. This proves that he works hard in training and works hard through the winter. This is the perfect example to set.
"We have a good squad here and the youngsters give us that freshness. It's important to have a nice balance of youth and experience and that's why I am pleased to sign on again. We have lots of exciting
talent coming through and it is great to be a part of that," he added.
