Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett script a Boston Celtics rout over New Jersey Nets - NBA Recap
New Jersey Nets stepped inside the TD Garden with their eyes set on the season high 4th straight win on the road but their dreams were shattered as Boston Celtics blew them out, 107-94.
Celtics dominated the game in the 1st half and with a boost from Paul Pierce, who netted a team-high 27 points and 8 assists, they improved to a 3 game winning streak. Pierce broke out of his shooting curse in this game
and regained his confidence.
"I think we are moving the ball a lot better and hopefully hitting our stride right here at home. We are playing better basketball. We have a huge West coast trip coming up for us in the next couple weeks, so it's important for
us to get as many wins as we can under our belt before we hit the road."
Kevin Garnett also recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Rajon Rondo erupted with 14 points and handed out a game-high 13 assists. Chris Wilcox also had 14 coming off the bench and Mickael Pietrus chipped
in with 11 as Boston got their 18th win of the season.
Brook Lopez netted a game high 28 for the Nets, for whom Deron Williams tallied 12 points and 8 assists. Marshon Brooks, Anthony Morrow and Gerald Green netted 11 apiece for New Jersey, who will take on the Charlotte Bobcats next.
Celtics were brilliant in the first half as they tallied a season high 58 points and had only two turnovers. The C’s claimed an early 17-6 advantage and stretched it to 29-20 by the end of the period. Nets tried to scratch off
the lead early in the 2nd stanza and managed to narrow the gap to 34-30, but the Greens exploded with 14 unanswered points and left the Nets reeling at 48-30 with 3:23 in hand.
By the end of the first half, Boston were ahead by 58-40 and midway through the 3rd, they made it 79-53, before Brooks knocked down a jumper to start a 18-6 Nets run that made it 85-7. The run however didn’t dent to
Boston’s dominance and with a conclusive jumper from Rondo; they entered into the decisive frame with an 87-71 lead.
Greens cruised their way into the 4th quarter and with 3:12 left on the clock, were leading by 103-84 lead. The Nets reeled off a 10-4 run to reduce the gap at 107-94 with less than 44 clicks, but by then, it was too
late.
