Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo open up about Boston Celtics poor record so far - NBA Update
Boston Celtics are easily one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA, with 17 titles under their belt. However, they have failed to justify their record, the way they are playing this season.
Currently sitting at the eight spot in the Eastern Conference with a record of 15-17, the C's have been a shadow of what they used to be in the past or even the last season. So what is the cause of all this? - Not the lack of quality
players because they have them in abundance.
It is actually the lack of consistency and discipline which is surprising, keeping in mind that Celtics roster consists of veterans who have been in this business for such a long time.
Celtics star Rajon Rondo, who missed last two games because of disciplinary issues after hitting the referee with the ball, and Paul Pierce both recently talked to media and had the same opinion.
“There’s not a lot of consistency,” said Rondo. “That’s why our record is what it is. We may play well for two or three quarters and then go in a lull where we don’t score the ball, not a lot of ball movement, getting outrebounded,
not taking care of the glass. I think we’ve lost maybe over half of our games by just not being disciplined, just simple mistakes in the fourth quarter”
Paul Pierce continued from where Rondo left off.
“I’m attributing a lot of that to the lack of practice time. But also it’s about the discipline and understanding what we’re trying to do. You know, when we come out of timeouts we need to have guys listening”
Anyway, both the stars were hopeful that the Celtics would get better in the upcoming games but added that for that to happen, everyone would need to put a lot of hard work.
Pierce has had an injury-plagued season so far and that has affected his performances massively. He admitted that he had a tough time so far in the season because all of those injuries. According to him, he has never faced injury
problems at the start of the season but probably because of the busy schedule this time, his body has felt the pressure.
It is still not too late for the Celtics as there is still a lot of time left in this season. They have the ability to bounce back anytime and when they do, they will be simply unstoppable, so no need to push the panic button yet.
