Paul Pierce leads Boston Celtics to terrific comeback win over Los Angeles Clippers 94 – 85 – NBA Recap
The Boston Celtics pulled a masterful performance out of the bag to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 94 – 85 on Monday. Playing at the Staples Center, the Celtics charged back after trailing by double-digits at one point to clinch the emphatic win.
Paul Pierce was a major force behind the Celtic’s resilient show as he scored a game high 25 points and dished out 7 assists. The Celtics captain shared responsibility with the mercurial Kevin Garnett, the veteran forward turning back the years for a 21
point, 8 rebound performance.
Ray Allen scored 15 points while star point guard Rajon Rondo had a double-double at 12 points and 10 assists.
High flying forward Blake Griffin paced the Clippers with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Maurice Williams came off the bench for 21 points and super star Chris Paul could only manage 14 with 5 assists.
The Celtics looked in the mood right from the start, going on an 11 – 4 run from jump ball. The Clippers came back though, drawing level at 13 – 13 but Boston kept on pushing, leading for most of the first quarter and ending at 25 – 21.
The second belonged to the home side. Clippers found their groove in the period and a 12 – 0 blitz put them in control at 42 – 33. Boston didn’t have any time to recover and the half ended with Los Angeles in control; 48 – 39.
The veterans from Boston though weren’t going to throw in the towel, and they came out with a determined look about them after the break. After some even opening exchanges, the Celtics used a 9 – 0 run to take the overturn the deficit and go ahead, 54 –
50.
Boston continued to be aggressive and looked in control, however a 7 – 0 spurt by the Clippers to end the third frame put them in contention, just behind at 62 – 61.
The Celtics started the penultimate period with a 9 – 0 sprint that put the Clippers on the back foot. Nevertheless, the home team fought back, drawing level with a 13 – 2 run, before eventually taking the lead.
Celtics though had the last laugh as their defence stifled Clippers production down the stretch, handing them a 94 – 85 win.
