Paul Pierce status for the 5th game against Atlanta Hawks is in limbo, Hurts left knee - NBA Update
On Sunday, during a practice session, Boston Celtics captain Paul Pierce injured his left knee. However, he decided to test his limits in game-4, which the C’s won comfortably.
Pierce played for 16:37 and collected a game high 24 points and 4 rebounds. He netted 18 points in the opening half, allowing the C’s to build a 64-41 lead in the 1st 24 minutes. The game action however caused enough
damage for Paul’s status to be shaky for Game 5.
“I kind of tripped over someone's foot, turned the knee [in shoot around]," said Pierce. "I had to sit around the last half of shootaround and, tonight, I just kind of re-aggravated it.”
"I kinda sprained it this morning, then I aggravated it today in the game," said Pierce. "I'm glad we were able to get a win like this, give me some rest. We'll get me a couple days off, I can get some treatment and hopefully it
feels good on Tuesday."
Greens are leading the 1st round 3-1 but the victory came with a cost as it is their third player who succumbed to nagging injury. Apart from Paul, Ray Allen and Avery Bradley are also day to day. Allen is still nursing
an injured ankle while Bradley is struggling with an injured shoulder.
The franchise has not given any timetable, but Doc Rivers, the Celtics coach will not want to play his premier forward until he is completely sure;
"I have no idea," said Rivers. "With a couple of guys, actually three of them, we literally don't know. So we'll find out."
The Celtics have by far been the most unfortunate team as far as the injuries are concerned. They had not one but two players, in Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox, ruled out for the entire season due to a rare form of heart ailment
and were without the services of Jermaine O’ Neal nearly throughout the season. However, still the Greens have managed to be a threat in the East and look set to qualify for the Eastern Conference Semifinals, which will most probably be against the Philadelphia
76ers.
