Paul Pierce twists ankle, Brandon Bass bruises knee in the game against Brooklyn Nets – NBA Update
Boston Celtics rounded off an easy win over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, but that did not come without injuries to two of their important players, Paul Pierce and Brandon Bass.
Pierce tweaked his left ankle after making a three pointer in the second quarter. He landed on Gerald Wallace’s foot on his way down after the shot, and had to leave for the locker room immediately. The star small forward however
returned for the second half and finished the night with 18 points – combined game high along with Courtney Lee – and 5 rebounds in nearly 22 minutes.
As for Bass, the power forward bruised his right knee in the first half and did not take any further part. Celtics coach was wary about the recent injury to Bass;
"Knee again," Rivers said after the game. "I don't know if it's bad, but we just didn't take any chances."
It was the knee, swelling on which, forced Bass to miss 6 games late last season. The Celtics struggled a bit in his absence last time around, but have more than decent players to cover up should Bass need more time to recuperate.
Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox have both recovered from their heart ailments, and the C’s also have decent reserves in rookies Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo.
River is intent to use his bench more in the remaining two warm up game, the first of which will be against the New York Knicks on Saturday night.
"This was the hardest game that (the veterans will) play, I can tell you that," Rivers said. "Maybe the last game (against Philadelphia on Sunday) they may play one good half. The New York game, I would be surprised -- we've got
to play somebody. But a lot of them are not playing. They already know that. They knew that before this game. And then we get seven days (of practice) to work and prepare for the start of the season (after Sunday's game)."
The Green’s have had a below average preseason so far. They have lost 4 of the total 6 game played and have not won at home so far. Their performances in the last three games have been impressive though and it seems that they are
quickly removing the kinks in their armoury.
