Paul Reddam’s peculiar outing after his Kentucky Derby triumph
Paul Reddam, owner of the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby winner, I’ll Have Another after a massive win was among people, who had no idea that such a famous race in all of America had unfolded at Churchill Downs, and the fellow sitting right in front of them owns
the horse who won it.
It must be an unbelievable feeling for Reddam, who must be itching to let out or at least talk about something, but it would have been degrading such a massive achievement with a few fund managers of New York’s financial district, who had been doing everything
unrelated to what’s happening at Churchill Downs on the day the race happened.
Mostly, golfing, sailing and entirely aloof of Reddam’s once in a lifetime achievement, but its okay, the man will now be a celebrity at Pimlico when his winner races to claim the middle jewel of the Triple Crown.
According to Reddam, these meeting were set long ago, and he had to make them, but the poor man had to fit in the Kentucky Derby winning somewhere along there.
“It was a nice problem to have, and were they aware of the Derby, the meeting would start with everyone wishing they’d bet on the horse,” Reddam went on. “But where they had no clue I chose to leave it that way. At a certain point it was a refreshing change
to talk with people who didn’t know that I’d won the Derby. We’re kind of faux celebrities right now, with people coming out of the woodwork at you. To live like that full-time would be terrible.”
If I’ll Have Another goes on to win the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on 19 May, 2012, then watch out, Reddam and his wife, Zillah, will be swept in a tide of Triple Crown mayhem.
If Reddam goes on to win the Preakness Stakes, than he will become the face of horse racing for the next three weeks, and someone advised him to get a handler, who can do all the talking to the press on behalf of Reddam.
