Paul Scholes: Sir Alex Ferguson wanted me to stay – English Premier League news
Legendary Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes, has revealed that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson almost persuaded him to stay at Old Trafford for at least one more season ahead of his decision to announce retirement from football.

The 36-year-old midfielder asserted, “The manager felt I could do 15 to 20 games next season. Physically I was not feeling great in training or the games towards the end of the season. I came to this decision, which I think is the right one.”
Paul Scholes hardly played for full 90 minutes in the recently concluded season and his main contribution in United’s title winning squad was his substitute appearances. The 36-year-old feels that he has made the right decision as he was not satisfied with
his substitute cameos.
He said, “I don’t think anybody wants to play a bit-part, but I’d realised that the stage of my career I was at and the way I was physically, that’s just part and parcel of it. You’re at a top club with the best players and you just have to realise that
maybe your legs can’t do what you want them to do anymore.”
It was reported that Paul Scholes announced his retirement after the disgraceful defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League but Scholes, who played last ten minutes against the Catalans at Wembley Stadium, rubbished such claims and insisted the retirement
plans were on his mind since the start of the last 2010/11 season.
Paul Scholes, one of the rare players to score in every Premier League season, has won 10 Premier League titles, 3 FA Cups and 2 Champions League medals with Manchester United during his 17-year long career at Old Trafford.
