Paul Scholes expects Manchester United to pick up pace
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scholes-c29394 believes that Manchester United would have to pick up their pace and start performing upon resumption of the UEFA Champions League.
He expects no less than a final spot in the tournament from the Red Devils, having achieved the feat twice since 2008.
Manchester United travel to meet French giants Olympique Marseille next week and Scholes expects the team to stay focused throughout the remainder of the on-going 2010-11 season. The midfielder believes that the rivalries between the European clubs have
restarted following the resumption of the tournament.
“It's the sign for the run-in. It just kind of happens without you knowing it. You know there are 12 games left in the league, the FA Cup is getting down to the latter stages and Europe is starting again,” stated the veteran midfielder.
Scholes believes every game from now onwards is as important as a cup final and everyone would have to start playing up to their potential.
Manchester United managed a solid 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City thanks to a brilliant goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736. Following that and Chelsea’s recent 0-0 slump to local rivals Fulham, the title race is now only between Arsenal and the Red Devils.
Scholes believes that the more matches http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 play, the more chances for United to have a firm grip over the four-point lead they currently have at the summit of the table.
Manchester United have also have a packed schedule in the coming weeks. They face non-league side Crawley Town, followed by an away fixture against Marseille. After that, they have three successive away fixtures in the Premier League, which include the likes
of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. United have the worst away form in the top four in the Premier League and results at Anfield and Stamford Bridge would be crucial in determining the title.
“Marseille won't be easy. It's a tough place. We played there before quite a few years ago and got beaten. But we are looking forward to it. Hopefully it is the start of a good end to the season for us and we can go all the way to the final again and win
it,” stated the veteran.
