Paul Snow-Hansen and Jason Saunders on top of 470 Men fleet: 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta
Second day proceedings of the 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta started under ideal wind conditions on the Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay waters. The race committee was expecting the same winds for the regatta before they launched the event.
The 470 Men fleet, on the other hand, enjoyed impressive sailing on the second day of the regatta and formulated the updated results.
With some classy sailing skills, despite the slower start, New Zealand’s Paul Snow-Hansen along with the navigator Jason Saunders was able to claim the overall leading podium place of the fleet standings with eight points. The Kiwi team participated in six
races to compile the final points where points of one race were discarded.
Snow-Hansen and Saunders started their regatta run with a ninth and a fourth finish in the first two races which placed them in the lower podium place.
However, the pair bounced back into the event with a tremendous sailing genius and compiled four bullets in the final four races which were enough to ensure their leading position in the fleet standings.
The former regatta leaders, Australia’s Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page have tumbled down on the second position with eight points. However, they can still challenge the Kiwi pair at anytime in the regatta.
Overall standings after six races:
1. NZL 212 Paul SNOW-HANSEN NZLPS3 Jason SAUNDERS NZLJS2 (9), 4, 1, 1, 1, 1 = 8 Points
