http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Stefani confirms negotiations with Lokomotiv Moscow for Standard Liege’s Steven Defour
Standard Liege sensation Steven Defour’s agent, Paul Stefani, has revealed that his client is restless for a move to the Russian Premier League. Lokomotiv Moscow are reportedly the frontrunners among the Russian clubs to lure the Belgian national, whose
contract runs out in 2015.
“There really is an interest from a Russian club and Defour would like to try himself at such a big club. Steven would like to look at the city and the training ground. Then we will continue the discussion of the contract’s details. According to our information,
he will earn up to €2 million per year in Moscow” Stefani said.
President of Lokomotiv Moscow, Olga Smorodskaya, has admitted interest in the Belgian playmaker but insisted that there is nothing concrete yet.
“The negotiations on Defour are ongoing, but the contract has not been signed yet.” Smorodskaya was reported as saying.
Defour was a subject of interest for Spartak Moscow but the much anticipated move collapsed when the Myaso succeeded in luring a rather cheap alternative in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Janssen-c34871 to
the Amsterdam arena from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 forced the Dutch national to leave Eredivisie.
Stefani revealed that this is not the first time his client has received offers from Russia by explaining that Spartak Moscow had approached the 23-year-old before.
“Yes, Spartak also enquired about Steven, however, for today we have only one option – with Lokomotiv.”
Lokomotiv Moscow had been operating under the caretaker manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vladimir-c36322 Maminov, since the club parted company with Yuri Krasnozhan over an alleged matter of match fixing against Anzhi Makhachkala. The railway men have now appointed Portuguese Jose Couceiro
as their head coach on a two-year contract.
Under the ambitious president and the newly appointed experienced head coach, the Red-Greens are moving in the right direction. Having already secured the signatures of West Ham http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458, from the relegated East London
club, the rail roaders are also pursuing the Levante striker Felipe Corozo for a reported 7.5 million Euros move to Lokomotiv.
The Loko have reportedly targeted to play UEFA Champions League in the next season and they need to finish in the top three to achieve the objective. As it stands, the railway men are six points adrift of the last qualification spot.
Defour’s stint in the Belgian Pro League has proved his versatile nature. The player is equally adept at launching lightening quick counter attacks and box-to-box play. His acquisition could prove fruitful in claiming a European position for Lokomotiv, and
there is little doubt about that.
