http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739: Centuries in the 4th Season of the Indian Premier League – Part 1
After Adam Gilchrist’s recent mauling of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 63rd match of the Indian Premier League, the number of centuries in this, the fourth season of the IPL has gone up to six.
It gives one food for thought as to how many players have achieved this feat in the tournament so far. There have been huge knocks from relatively unknown players, like the surprise package Paul Valthaty, typical explosive batting from Virender Sehwag, a
fine knock by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221.
Paul Valthaty’s unbeaten 120
The Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 player, Paul Valthaty, certainly made a name for himself during the opening stages of the tournament blasting his way to some impressive innings and leading his side to a fair share of victories as well. Valthaty’s most impressive contribution
came against the Chennai Super Kings at Mohali though when he scored the 120 runs, as it still stands as the highest score in this year’s tournament.
The knock came as the Kings XI were off to a near perfect start and came off just 63 deliveries. It consisted of two sixes which pale in comparison to the 19 fours the batsman smashed the Chennai bowlers for in every corner of the park.
Valthaty was simply unstoppable as he destroyed each and every single bowler the opposition side threw at him, playing at his own pace and that too with elegant ease. The aggression was there but it was balanced with some fine shot selection that saw the
batsman stay on the crease throughout the entire innings as none of the bowlers could claim his wicket on that day. Valthaty’s knock was one of the reasons people tune in to watch the IPL and T20 cricket in general.
Virender Sehwag’s 119 runs
Whether it be Test matches, One Day Internationals or T20s, Indian World Cup winner, Virender Sehwag has only one ‘mode’ which seems to activate when he dons the helmet and makes his way with bat in hand on to the crease.
Sehwag has the ability to single-handedly win matches and his skill was in full display in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 when he punished the dismal Deccan Chargers bowling attack in front of their own home fans on his way to a 119 run knock.
The knock came at a blistering pace as Sehwag was on the crease for just 56 deliveries before his dismissal, during which he dispatched 13 deliveries to the ropes and sent six deliveries flying over the boundary in an exhilarating display.
It was vintage Sehwag and though home fans would have hated to see their bowlers utterly humiliated, they surely could not help but enjoy the fine batting performance by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevil batsman.
The two knocks are still ranked number one and two on the Highest Scores by an individual player on the IPL charts for its fourth season and though they are not the only one, they certainly gave the paying fans more return for their buck.
