Paul Webber confident that Time for Rupert will enter the Gold Cup
Time For Rupert’s trainer, Paul Webber, is hopeful that his horse will be able to enter the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup, by winning the Argento Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday, January 28, 2012.
The reason why Webber was upbeat about the chances of his horse was his performance in the Betfair Graduation Chase at Newbury, December last year.
The eight-year-old horse was the favourite to win the event with a starting price of 8 to 15, and lived up to his reputation by winning the event comprehensively. He started off well and was unchallenged till the end of the race.
Commenting on this victory, Webber said:
“He has been in wonderful form since Newbury and we are very pleased with him. His last run was just what we wanted - a bit of confidence restoring after a baptism of fire at Haydock against Kauto Star. It was a real learning curve for Rupert running
against those sort of horses and I'm sure he has benefited from it.”
Despite this performance, Webber does not want to make any hasty decisions and said that he will wait for the outcome of the Argento Chase before finalising about the Gold Cup.
The veteran trainer said:
“I want to see him run well on Saturday before deciding about the Betfred Gold Cup. We will have to see what has finished behind him or in front of him before making a decision.”
Time For Rupert was in good shape before the Gold Cup last year and was the favourite to win it, but he was unable to participate in the event because of a setback.

However, things are now different for the Littlecote Partnership owned horse and he seems to be fully ready for the big event.
The only concern for Webber will be, whether his horse can deliver consistent results or not.

The recent performances of Time For Rupert do suggest that he is ready to take on other horses in any event, but the Argento Chase will be quite crucial in determining the true picture.
The Chase, coming Saturday, will be quite an interesting one, as some horses like Grands Crus, Master of the Hall and The Minack have done well in such events, and are likely to give a tough time to Time For Rupert.
