Paul Williams hoping to beat Erislandy Lara Santoya and face Sergio Martinez – Boxing news
Former two-time WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams is set to take on Cuban professional boxer Erislandy Lara Santoya on July 9, 2011 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Paul ‘The Punisher’ Williams is very hopeful to win this bout to ensure his eligibility of going against the 36-year-old experienced Sergio Martinez for the third time in his boxing career.
The July 9 fight between the Southpaw stance Paul Williams is an interesting fight to watch. However, the fight could be tough or risky one for Williams at this stage of his career. Williams is making a comeback to the ring after losing a second round knockout
decision to Sergio Gabriel Martinez in 2010 in United States. It was a very disappointing fight as Williams was not be able to take that bout until the end.
The Cuban professional boxer, Erislandy Lara Santoya has been an outstanding performer since he joined boxing as a profession. The 28-year-old Lara has never been defeated by anyone in his career. Lara is regarded as the best puncher around the globe. According
to many boxing observers, the selection of Lara as Williams’s next opponent is a brave decision.
There is no denying the fact that Williams proved to be a challenging opponent against the big boxing names such as Winky Wright, Sergio Martinez, Kermit Cintron, Carlos Quintana, and Antonio Margarito but he needs to learn more from his past mistakes and
should not try to repeat it if he is really willing to face Martinez.
Considering Lara a tough candidate, Williams should try to come up with an improved fight plan this time against Lara especially to cope with his left uppercuts otherwise the fight can go out of his way easily.
Martinez and Williams went face to face for the first time at the same avenue of Boardwalk Hall in New Jersey. They met at the same venue for their second bout as well which Williams won through a unanimous points decision against Martinez. Let’s see how
the third bout between both pugilists turns out to be.
