Paul Williams paralysed at lower body due to bike accident – Boxing News
Paul Williams, former two-time WBO welterweight champion, met a tragic bike accident on Sunday in the suburbs of Atlanta. The pugilist was rushed to the hospital where his lower body, from waist down, was diagnosed paralysed, whereas his upper body was stable.
According to the doctors, for now it does not seem like Paul will be able to continue with his career anymore.
George Peterson, manager for Paul Williams, revealed, “From the waist down, he has absolutely no movement. He's in very good spirits, though. He still believes he's going to fight again. I know he's going to make a statement after surgery on Wednesday, because
he's that kind of person. He's 100 per cent coherent and still has the will to want to get back on the motorcycle. I want to think along with him cause I've seen him do things in his boxing career that shouldn't have happened. We want his fans to know he's
going to be all right and he'll be back. He said if he wasn't going to be boxing, he's going to be a stand-up comedian.”
Williams’ bike crashed because he was dodged by a car from another lane and yet dodged by another car that was coming right at him. Williams was present in the suburbs of Atlanta to attend his brother’s wedding ceremony.
It should be noted here that Williams had to fight Saul Alvarez on September 15 in Las Vegas. However, now the event has been cancelled, according to manager Peterson. Peterson further said that Williams will continue with his career and he will fight back.
Currently, the pugilist is conscious in an Atlanta based hospital. A surgery is scheduled for Wednesday to ensure his upper body remains stable. A protective wall will be put around his upper spine.
For now, there is no news as to by what time Paul will recover, and whether his lower body will be stable again or not. The pugilist is currently suffering through the worst time of his career. Even though his manager believes he will carry on with his career,
doctors believe it is not possible.
