Paul di Resta: I am very close to Mercedes – Formula 1 Update
Formula 1 Force India driver Paul di Resta has updated the media with the fact that he is very close to Mercedes, as he was a part of the team and also won his last year’s ‘DTM series’ on this platform.
Resta went on to mention that the team provided him the best platform, where he posted the best time of his career, before moving into the Formula 1 Force India team in 2010.
There were rumours during the races of the ongoing season that Mercedes could be lining up Resta to the team in the future. But, the German has downplayed this link after the Chinese race. He added that presently he is happy with the Force India team, as
it have given him a ‘great opportunity’ to deliver his efforts on the F1 grid.
The current DTM champion said, “They have had a huge influence on my career and I'm very grateful to them. It is great that people are talking but at the same time I have got to keep progressing. I never take anything for granted. It is important to have
ambitions, of course, but I try just to stay focused on each individual thing and not worry too much about the future. Take it day by day."
He had a good start in the season, however Resta’s manager Anthony Hamilton has predicted a bright future of his driver with a ‘top team’ of the sport.
He added, "I would like to think there is an interest. We’ve not spoken to anyone but for sure Paul is a Mercedes protégé and Norbert has said some very complimentary things about him. I'm just really proud of him.”
On the other hand, the Force India team boss Vijay Mallya said that after the strong start in the 2011 season, he is confident for its team points during the up-coming races of the season.
He also mentioned that after successful first three races of the season, held in Melbourne, Sepang and China, it is expected from both the drivers that they can make more supportive points in every race of the remaining season.
After the Chinese Grand Prix, the team praised the performance of both drivers. They said that they really worked hard and tried their level best to complete their best run, at the circuit. With regards to race progress, they have a low pace during the China
race, so they were unable put in an impressive run ahead of strong competitors.
Mallya further added that his team’s overall performance in this season was good, so the squad should be pleased due to its current condition in the sport.
The next race weekend of this season will take place in Turkey, on May 8.
