Paul di Resta: New front wing for Force India in Spanish GP, track familiar than ever – Formula 1
Force India rookie Paul di Resta has said that the Spanish Grand Prix track is a familiar one after the winter testing sessions.
Paul added that a new front wing will be used in the Barcelona race which was tested in the Turkish Grand Prix free practice session but was not used due to lack of confidence.
Paul stated, “I probably know Barcelona better than any other track on the calendar, as we did two tests there in the winter and I had four days in the car, so I already feel quite well prepared.”
He concluded that every team and driver will be more than confident when they step in Barcelona.
He further added that Force India will have to take some huge steps if the team is to lead the midfield against other contenders like Toro Rosso and Sauber.
Force India completed almost 3000km in the two test sessions in Barcelona, but like every other team, the India-based team is looking to bring some development to their 2011 car, VJM04.
“We evaluated a new front wing in Istanbul and we hope to have more steps coming through in the near future. The team has been working hard on this new concept and everybody is quite upbeat about its race introduction,” stated Paul.
Paul di Resta has made an impression that every drivers wishes in his first season. He has managed two point scoring finishes in Australia and Malaysia out of the four races of the 2011 season so far.
The Scot has managed to finish three out of four races thereby making Force India a threat for other midfield teams early in the season.
Force India team principal Vijay Mallya thinks that they will do well in the Spanish Grand Prix.
He stated that not using the front wing in the Turkish GP was a shame because the wet and rainy conditions hindered the tests and the team decided not to use it.
The free practice session of the Spanish GP will be contested on Friday and Force India will be hoping for some good results.
