Paul di Resta deserves to be on 2011 Formula 1 grid: Sir Jackie Stewart
Paul di Resta became part of Formula 1 in 2010 as a test driver for Force India. After his performance in Friday practice sessions, Paul managed to prove that he has the pace and consistency to be a part of the sport.
However, his position as a reserve/test driver is definitely not satisfactory and he hopes to sign with one of the teams in order to make his debut in the sport in 2011.
Sir Jackie Stewart recently stated that there is no reason why Paul di Resta should not be a part of Formula 1 as a full season race driver. The 3-time champion believes that Paul has the potential and pace to match the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian
Vettel.
“I don't see any reason why Paul shouldn't be on the grid next year. He's impressed everyone with what he's achieved during his Friday test sessions with Force India this year, and he's fast,” said Stewart.
The 24-year-old British driver has won the DTM championship and in 2010, he proved his abilities during the Friday test sessions.
However, his current team Force India is yet to announce their drivers’ list for 2011 and according to some reports, the team is considering Adrian Sutil, Tonio Liuzzi and Nico Hulkenberg for the two spots. Since Paul di Resta is already a part of the team,
there are rumours that the team is considering him as a viable option as well.
Stewart also stated that the 2011 Formula 1 grid is the best grid in the history of the sport as it contains drivers like Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa and of course, Michael Schumacher. He believes
that Paul di Resta might add something even more to the grid if he becomes a part of it as well.
“In my mind, definitely, I think it's the best field ever assembled in Formula One. If 2010 was a great year, 2011 - because the same people are there with even more experience - is going to be another great year,” said the 3-time world champion.
