Paul di Resta does not support Nico Hulkenberg’s transfer to Sauber F1 – Formula 1 news
Force India’s Paul di Resta does not support his teammate Nico Hulkenberg’s decision to move to Sauber F1 for next year’s season.
Sauber F1 recently confirmed Hulkenberg for their driver line up of next year. The team has signed him for a one-year contract replacing their current driver Sergio Perez who is moving to McLaren. Sauber’s team principal Monisha Kaltenborn stated that they
had been observing the driver for a while and are hopeful that he will fit well with the new team.
Hulkenberg himself has been very excited about his transfer. However, it is common knowledge that both teams are rivals on the constructors’ grid at the present time. The Sauber team is at sixth position while Force India is at seventh standing with a difference
of twenty three points.
Di Resta thinks that the decision is wrong in sense that Sauber is not only their rival this season but also not a better team than them.
“I was surprised that Nico left this team, to be fair, for an immediate competitor,” di Resta said. “I don't see it as being a step up to be perfectly honest. I see it as equal - if anything - status, I think long term where you see this team's going I think
it's probably better. They've had a couple of remarkable results - I'm not going to deny that - but in terms of consistency we've got a lot. Next year may be different, and I don't know the full reasons why Nico's gone there.”
Di Resta himself has not been picked by any top Formula 1 team at which he has expressed his disappointment but also added that Force India has been improving and has a potential to make even more progress. He insists that he is satisfied with his current
team.
On the other hand, Hulkenberg is looking forward to working for Sauber stating that it is a competitive team which has given many young drivers good opportunities and he wants to be one of them. He insisted that the team is developing positively and together
they will attain much more progress. However, he is currently focused on winning for Force India.
