Paul di Resta of Force India targeting big teams at the Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Paul di Resta of Force India is happy with his results after the Singaporean Grand Prix and anticipates that they will be able to target big teams at the Suzuka circuit as they did on Marina Bay Street Circuit.
He finished the Singapore GP at a career-best fourth position.
The British driver expressed satisfaction with his results because it was a straightforward weekend. They have scored 16 points in the last two races. He views that the points they earned were difficult and finishing the race at the fourth position proves
that they have the capabilities to challenge big teams.
He said, “Keeping that up is the plan for Suzuka; it's two weeks away so hopefully we can keep our heads down and just enjoy this race first and then arrive there in good form.”
The Force India driver does not favour the safety car on the circuit because it gave advantage to Fernando Alonso of Ferrari as the Ferrari driver was stuck among cars at a point on the circuit, when they had a chance to overtake him.
In addition, he said that he managed to stay with him but when it comes to challenge a Ferrari it is better to take fourth position because of the swiftness of the Italian machine, rather than competing for the third.
Di Resta said, “At the start of that stint I was able to stay with him but he just started to creep away in the last eight laps and you've got to know enough's enough. When you're challenging a Ferrari we'll take fourth place with both hands because it makes
a big difference to our championship.”
The British driver anticipates that his impressive results over the Singaporean circuit would support him in attaining a future with some strong team. He likes winning races and believes that the last Sunday at the Singaporean circuit was the best day in
his Formula 1 career.
The gap of Di Resta from Alonso was 3.8 seconds. He started the Singapore GP at the 6th grid. He finished the FP3, FP2 and FP1 at 7th, 6th and 8th position respectively.
Let’s see how the British driver performs in the Japan GP scheduled on October 7, 2012.
