Paul di Resta reveals Force India’s double strategy used for Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Force India’s Paul di Resta has recently revealed that the team decided to use a different strategy for both of its drivers at the very last moment before the Singapore Grand Prix.
He said that is the reason why Adrian Sutil and di Resta were using different compounds in the beginning of the race.
“I think because we were reasonably quick after they made the first pit stop we were still in front of them. They had quite a bit of pace compared to me, because they had fresh tyres. I wasn’t going to compromise my own speed and my own track position. And
I think that was the key, being able to do that,” he said.
At first, the Scotsman started on soft tyres in order to take more advantage in terms of track time and laps while Adrian Sutil went out on the supersoft tyres in order to get more speed but comparatively less amount of lap times.
The two drivers had a mixed result and apparently, di Resta’s strategy worked out much better as he finished behind Red Bull Racing team, McLaren and Ferrari only. He finished in a strong 6th place and these sorts of results are
really benefiting the young driver as he is proving that he can score good results if provided with a good car and strategy.
“It was quite difficult. There was a point where we could have stopped and come out in front of a couple of cars, but we chose to carry on so we could extend the supersoft run,” said di Resta.
Adrian Sutil on the other hand finished in 8th place behind Nico Rosberg’s Mercedes but still it was a great result for the team overall as they are now quite comfortably ahead of Sauber in the constructors’ standings.
Therefore, the team is hoping for an even better result at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix and by the looks of it, Sauber and Toro Rosso might not be able to catch up with Force India if they keep performing like this.
