Paul di Resta says Buddh International Circuit is ready for race on Sunday – Formula 1 news
Force India driver Paul di Resta says the Buddh International Circuit is all set and ready for the race on Sunday.
This weekend will mark the first ever Indian Grand Prix drivers have had to learn the track through simulators in the short time they have before the race. Paul di Resta had a look at the track by taking a walk on it, and suggested that it seems that it
is definitely ready for a race.
He also mentioned that because they only had simulators to learn the track, even the maps were not available, it was a bit hard to understand the track, but now that he has had a walk, he could see all the details clearly and has a better understanding of
the track.
“Obviously because you've done the simulator you know which way you're going, but the first time I did the simulator there wasn't even maps or anything out, so it was kind of you just drive out and didn't really know where the track was going,” di Resta
said.
“Whereas when you go out you can actually see where it is, you can see the off-camber, you can see the kerbs and as I said I think they've done a mighty job. Even to the point down to where the kerbs are I think it's in perfect condition ready to go,” he
added.
Yet di Resta admitted that even though he had a good run with the simulators it is still far from what you get on the track, especially the turns 10 and 11 are already a complex one and on the simulator, they were hard to spot. During the race, it gets trickier
as it is much lower than the simulator.
Di Resta also said that he expects huge variability in lap times at the first practice run on Friday as teams will try and work out the best strategy for the track. The teams will be looking into downforce levels to determine the best setup. Even Pirelli’s
tyre strategy has changed as well, so it will be an interesting first session on Friday.
The exciting part though begins on Sunday, October 30, 2011.
