Paul di Resta says Force India delivered what they said, Mercedes didn’t – Formula 1
Force India’s Paul Di Resta has stated that Force India is the team that gave him the opportunity to drive in Formula 1. Paul added that Mercedes, his DTM team, is a good team but didn’t give him the opportunity to drive in the Formula 1 team.
The Scottish driver had his junior career success mostly driving for the Mercedes team. He won the 2010 DTM championship with the Mercedes team but waited to make his way into the senior Formula 1 team and was not given a seat for quite a long time.
Paul made finally made his way in Formula 1 with the Force India team and despite a slow 2011 car, VJM-04, he has shown that he is a good driver and outpaced his senior team-mate, Adrian Sutil, three times in a row. His performance so far positively showcases
his ability to drive for a bigger team.
Recently, Mercedes team boss, Norbert Haug, has commented that Paul is a good driver and should drive for his team in the future. Haug said that Mercedes team is happy that their junior driver has made his way in Formula 1.
Paul, however, has a different idea about Mercedes team. He stated, “They have had a huge influence on my career and I'm very grateful to them. Force India have given me a great opportunity and ‘delivered what they said they would’. Hopefully I am delivering
what they hoped I would deliver for the team.” He further added that his ambition in Formula 1 is to make the most out of the opportunity that is presented by Force India team.
Paul’s manager, Anthony Hamilton, has also stated that, “We've not spoken to anyone but for sure Paul is a Mercedes protégé and Norbert has said some very complimentary things about him. I'm just really proud of him.”
Hamilton, father of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, added that Paul has done great in his debut season and with only three races down, Paul can move towards many more points. He also added that in the near future, Paul can replace a big name in the top teams.
For now, Paul is with Force India and no seat is available in the Mercedes team until the 2014 season.
