Paul di Resta says it has been difficult to learn and fully understand the car – Formula 1 news
Paul di Resta of Force India believes that it has been difficult to learn and fully understand the car because of the disjointed season.
The British rider added that he is at a disadvantage at Spa during the Belgian Grand Prix because he does not have a prior experience of a wet circuit there.
He said that the scattered season has made it difficult to fully understand and learn the car. He added that they have tried to catch a lot of weekends but they were very limited and it is uncontrollable.
He told ESPNF1, “It has (been disjointed), but I think it's been difficult to learn and fully understand [the car]. There have been a lot of weekends that we're still trying to catch up on Friday running which has obviously been very restricted.”
Furthermore, he said that experience on the circuit adds to the driving skills and it keeps increasing with the passage of time. Besides, he said that if it were a first year for some driver it would have been more difficult.
Additionally, he said that he has not qualified in wet conditions at Spa until now, therefore he is at a weak position at the wet circuit. He added that by the end of it one can only perform according to his capabilities. The British rider further added
that he is indifferent about the weekend at Belgian GP and the wet conditions at Spa are not affecting him anymore.
“I've only done the race here in the dry so I've not actually done any qualifying so I'm a bit hampered. But at the end of the day you can only do what you can do; I don't feel any more negative or any more positive than I did coming in to this weekend,”
he said.
Resta completed his fastest lap during the free practice 2 in 2 minutes and 51.333 seconds, whereas his teammate Nico Hulkenberg completed his fastest lap during FP2 in 2 minutes and 59.125 seconds.
Resta was able to attain 4th position in FP2. Let us see how he performs on Saturday and Sunday as the weather forecasts are that it will remain mostly cloudy during the qualifying session and the race day as well.
