Paul di Resta says third day of pre-season test at Barcelona was ‘intense work’ – Formula 1 news
Paul di Resta has described the third day of the second pre-season test at Barcelona as an intense day.
Di Resta lost time track time in the morning due to the engine cover of the car falling off. The issue caused the driver to only complete 20 laps in the morning session. Di Resta drove the car impressively as he tried to get as close as he could to the target number laps required by the team to analyse the car’s reliability.
Force India have been a happy camp so far with the VJM05 showing pace and reliability and only one blemish since they launched the car. The afternoon session at Barcelona proved to be more effective as di Resta completed 63 laps in the session. While he admitted that covering that many laps was hard work but completing the programme was very satisfying for him.
“Quite an intense day and a very busy afternoon, but the main thing is that we achieved the objectives for the day,” di Resta said. “There will be a lot of analysing tonight to see what we can learn, especially trying to understand the data from the long runs this afternoon. Once we've been through the numbers, it should give us a direction for tomorrow.”
“As I said in Jerez, it's nice to have a car with such a good baseline because it makes it easier to experiment with the set-up and that's what we're trying to do at the moment,” he said.
Force India have been doing a good job since they came into the sport and have been improving with each passing season. Last year in 2011 Force India was successful in securing a sixth place finish in the constructors’ championship a move up from the 2010 season. The team is trying to move into the top three spots in the 2012 season and so far from the looks of their test days they look on track to do so.
Having a good reliable car is half the work done in order to achieve better positions in the sport. Now the onus is on the drivers to come up with the results and di Resta along with teammate Nico Hulkenberg are all set to start the season with a bang.
