Paul di Resta sees the merger of Sahara India as positive for Force India – Formula 1 news
Force India driver Paul di Resta feels that Sahara India’s investment can only mean a positive thing for the team.
On Wednesday, team principal Vijay Mallya announced that Sahara India has bought 42.5% stakes in Force India, and now the team will be renamed as Sahara-Force India. Vijay Mallya himself described the merger as a platform “to greater success in the Formula
One world championship.”
Di Resta also believes that the deal will help Force India to be more competitive and better prepared for the future.
“I'd heard there were talks ongoing,” di Resta told reporters in Korea. “What has now happened is a great thing for Force India, to have that investment coming in. As Vijay recently said, his team is becoming what he wants it to be now. I'm sure it will
continue on an upward slope.”
However, di Resta did admit he did not know the full extent of changes that will follow the merger, but was in a positive frame of mind. He said that he knows that Vijay Mallya will remain the team principal and he is the one who has brought Force India
where it is today so he is not too worried about anything. He further said whatever changes take place it will not bother the team.
Force India are in 5th place in the ongoing constructors’ championship and are looking to maintain that position in the remaining four races of the season.
It will be interesting to see if the merger and the changes affect the team or the drivers in any way. It is also reported that owner of Sahara India Subrata Roy wants to instil Indian drivers in Force India. Will that information go down well with the current
drivers or will Vijay Mallya have the last say in the decisions of the team, remains to be seen.
Let’s see how does this affect di Resta’s performance at the upcoming Korean Grand Prix scheduled to begin from Friday, October 14, 2011.
