Paul di Resta still feels positive for approaching 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Force India driver Paul di Resta still feels positive that they will be able to perform well in the approaching 2012 Formula 1 season despite facing difficulties in the start.
The Silverstone-based team is currently standing at 8th place in the constructors’ championship with 28 points. Moreover, they are 22 points ahead of Toro Rosso and 13 points behind Sauber-Ferrari.
However, Di Resta said that they will be able to reduce the gap to the midfield in the upcoming races. Furthermore, he said that their aim is to score some reasonable points in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in
Montreal on June 10.
“I think me and Nico have a good relationship, we're obviously pushing each other along but also trying to develop the car because we feel that we're a little bit behind the likes of Sauber and Williams at the moment,” he said. “And to overcome that we need
to be doing good job in race. Over the weekend you've got to maximise what you have, and that's what we're going to try to achieve again this weekend.”
In addition, he said that they need to keep on working hard to create a profound understanding about their car in order to improve their performance in the races ahead.
“We need to understand car a bit more in terms of what we're bringing in terms of upgrades. That's what we're trying to achieve,” he said.
At present, he is at 11th position in the drivers’ championship with 21 points between Sauber pair of drivers, Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez.
On the other hand, his teammate, Nico Hulkenberg is at 15th place in the drivers’ rankings with 7 points. Besides, he is 3 points ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso and 3 points behind Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
Above and beyond, the British driver said that they are trying their best to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming races in order to secure a competitive position in this
year’s championship.
