Paul di Resta takes inspiration from Sergio Perez after 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Force India driver Paul di Resta says that if the conditions prove out to be supportive for them in this season, they can manage to match the impressive performance of Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari in the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix held at the Sepang International
Circuit on Sunday.
Perez secured second place finish in rainy conditions of the second race behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and earned the honour of becoming the first Mexican driver to claim a podium finish in F1 over the course of the last 41 years.
Moreover, it has been speculated that Perez has been considered to replace Felipe Massa who is struggling and has failed to score even a single point for the Scarlet team in both the races.
However, Perez has recently shown his commitment to continue his career with Sauber after a remarkable second-place finish at second GP.
Furthermore, team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali said that they were ready to provide Massa with any kind of help and support in order to improve his performance and boost up his morale.
Besides, Force India have managed to finish amongst the top three for only once with Giancarlo Fisichella back in 2009 Belgian GP. Nevertheless, di Resta has said that he is quite hopeful for his team this season.
“I don’t think you can rule that out,” the Scot told reporters at the Buddh International Circuit on the outskirts of Delhi. “You have to be ready for that (the opportunity of a podium), should that happen. It’s going to be a massive task and a difficult
one,” said the driver who turns 26 next month. You want it to happen, you go and prepare yourself for the weekend, if you can. We only saw this weekend what Sauber achieved, and Perez [achieved]. We have to believe that it can happen to us, if every circumstance
goes the right way.”
In addition, he said that Toro Rosso, Williams and Sauber will be the top contenders for his team in the races ahead. Nonetheless, he said that they will try their best to perform well and score some reasonable points in the season ahead.
