Paul di Resta thinks YDT is more valuable for young drivers – Formula 1 News
Force India driver Paul di Resta has said that the Young Driver Test is more valuable for the young drivers after his limited run at Silverstone circuit.
The FIA have only permitted the race drivers to test the new Pirelli tyres for one day in Silverstone. Therefore, Di Resta has asserted that the teams will get more out of the test if they allow the young drivers to run their cars
instead of the race drivers.
Nevertheless, he admitted that the test will surely provide the teams with good information about the tyre management and other technical aspects of the car. Besides, he said that it will be a good step forwards towards more learning
for the new era of Formula 1.
“Pirelli have got a big driving force on how we plan our programs,” di Resta said. “We're here to aid them and making sure they're safe going forward and making sure they're sufficient enough. It's very restricting for a race driver
what the team can do, so we're learning what we can but at the same point more learning for the future for F1.”
In addition, he said that his car’s performance was better in the test at Silverstone as compared to its showing in the British Grand Prix.
“In terms of reference it's probably better that we're in the car because we had a race here not long ago,” he said.
"There's value every time you run a Formula One car but I think there's more value when they run the young drivers,” he added.
Besides, he said that they successfully achieved the goals of the programme which the Italian tyre company set for them and are hoping to see improvements in the sport.
Additionally, he stated that he cannot make any kind of predictions about their performance in the forthcoming races. Nonetheless, he said that they are confidently looking forward to make their position stronger in the constructors’
championship.
The Silverstone based squad have performed impressively well in the season until now. It will be exciting to see how they perform in the Hungarian GP at Hungaroring on July 28, 2013.
