Paul di Resta trying to catch up with Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton – Formula 1 news
Force India’s Paul di Resta has recently stated that he is trying his best to cope up with his former rivals Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.
The three drivers used to drive alongside each other as rivals during their time in F3 but now, Vettel and Hamilton are in very strong teams while di Resta is in a mid-running team of the sport.
“In my F3 team there were four of us: me, Vettel, Kobayashi and van der Garde. I have to say that when he got to F1, Sebastian did an incredible job, capitalising on what he had in the best way. Perhaps he would have done the same thing if he had been in
my place in DTM, maybe not,” he said.
Other than that, he talked about the fact that he did not make it to Formula 1 as soon as Hamilton and Vettel did mainly because of the fact that he was considering some other options which was not a very good idea.
“I took some time to think about it (Mercedes’ offer), because I really wanted to stay in single seaters. But I also had a significant problem. I did a test in a GP2 car and it was simply too small for me. I changed seats three times but it was a nightmare,”
he added.
Force India are a very competitive team but one has to admit that they are nowhere near the pace of the top running teams of the sport and they need a lot of time in order to understand how Formula 1 is and how a top running team comes to being.
Di Resta on the other hand is a very good driver and he does deserve a good front running team as a result of which, former McLaren driver David Coulthard stated that Mercedes GP should look forward to sign him in case Michael Schumacher leaves the sport
after the 2011 Formula 1 season which seems quite uncertain according to some recent reports.
