Paul di Resta trying to cover lost ground after Nico Hulkenberg’s crash – Formula 1 news
Force India driver Paul di Resta is struggling to cover lost ground after Nico Hulkenberg’s crash in the Friday free practice session one of the 2011 Formula 1 European Grand Prix.
Di Resta was replaced with Hulkenberg during the morning practice session. After completing only seven laps, he lost control of his car and hit the wall at turn 12 of the Valencia Street Circuit. As a result, Force India had to spend a lot of time in order
to fix his car which suffered major damages to its driveshaft and the gearbox.
The Brit discussed both the practice sessions and said, “It makes things tricky, but it benefited me last year being a rookie to the championship this year. It's a team policy and I went along with it. It has not hampered me too much up to now and hopefully
it won't hamper me this weekend.”
He went on to add, “It's a risk. How do you tell somebody that you've just crashed their race car? I've crashed cars in the past that haven't been mine, but not before another diver gets into the car for FP2 to prepare for a race. It's a hard thing to accept
but there's not much that can be done.”
The 25-year-old driver praised the team mechanics’ work which they did before the second practice session. Resta added that he was not considering taking part in the afternoon practice session, as his car was badly damaged due to Hulkenberg’s crash. However,
he said the mechanics did a very great job and made his car perfect like it was before in morning.
Di Resta finished his second practice session in 14th place, just a fraction of a second slower than his German teammate, Sutil who finished in 11th place.
Apart from that, the 23-year-old driver, Nico Hulkenberg apologised to Resta for crashing his car and limiting his time in the car as well.
Force India have fixed all of issues with their car and now they are hoping for a successful time during the qualifying round and race day.
