Paul di Resta wants a podium finish in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Paul di Resta has said that he wants to secure a podium finish in the 2013 Formula 1 season and believes it is quite attainable.
Di Resta performed convincingly for Force India in this season and managed to attain some competitive results. Although, his race seat is yet to be confirmed by the Silverstone based squad, but he is very hopeful about his future in his team.
On the other hand, his teammate, Nico Hulkenberg also performed admirably well in this season and secured impressive points for his team. However, the German has planned to leave Force India at the end of this year and will join Sauber as Sergio Perez’s
replacement in the next season.
In contrast, Perez has signed a multi-year deal with McLaren where he will replace Lewis Hamilton who is going to join Mercedes in the coming year as Michael Schumacher’s replacement. Furthermore, the seven-time world champion has taken retirement from the
sport.
It will be important to note that Di Resta delivered a remarkable performance in the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix and secured an inspiring fourth place finish. Now, the veteran driver is looking forward to attain even better results in the coming season and
is aiming to secure a podium finish.
“I certainly want a podium and then I want to be on it again. That's the target,” Di Resta told the Scotsman newspaper. “But I don't want to luck-in to podium. For me, it has to be well-earned top-three finish, one which we can build on. We need to do it
on merit, and I certainly believe it's achievable.”
Besides, he insisted that they need to work really hard to develop a competent car for the next season in order to get the desired results.
“But to do it, we need a car capable of delivering fast, sustainable pace right through not only a race weekend, but also the whole season,” he said.
Additionally, he said that they are targeting to secure sixth place in the next year’s constructors’ championship.
“We're hoping to finish fifth overall in the Constructors' Championship next season,” he added.
