Paul the ‘psychic’ octopus dies
Paul the octopus, one of the stars of the 2010 World Cup thanks to his ‘psychic’ abilities, has died, according to his aquarium in Germany.
The mystic mollusc correctly predicted the outcome of all of Germany’s results this summer by placing himself inside a box marked with the national team flag, and then predicted that Spain would win the final.
Paul hit the headlines this summer after television pictures were beamed across the globe showcasing his incredible talent, but died of natural causes this morning at his aquarium in Oberhausen.
The octopus predicted four out of six results correctly at Euro 2008 – but came back two years later and bowed out on a high with a 100% record at the World Cup in South Africa.
In August this year, Paul was also selected as an ambassador for England’s 2018 World Cup bid.
Sadly, though, he won’t be around to find out whether his sterling efforts to bring the tournament back to his country of birth were in vain.
May he rest in peace.
