Paula Creamer determined to win the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup
Paula Creamer is going to participate in the RR Donnelley LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Founders Cup this week at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge’s Wildfire Golf Club, with eyes set on the prestigious title.
The 25-year-old American will face some of the leading players on the LPGA Tour.
The field set for this year’s Founders Cup is tougher than before but the young star looks determined not to surrender to her nerve.
The competitive roster will also feature the current world number one Yani Tseng, who recently said that she is eager to grab the title no matter how tough the field is.
The young American is expected to have plenty of opportunities, as the prize money is large enough to lure players.
Creamer played amazingly well in the last edition of the Founders Cup, coming close to winning the event.
She, however, could not stand her ground and faltered in the final moments. She lost the match to Aussie Karrie Webb.
Creamer was phenomenal in almost all the holes but Webb was far better than her rivals when it came to judgment on the ball.
Creamer fired an impressive 66, which showed that the star was better than average on that particular day.
However, the final moments saw her falter on the course and she missed several good chances to make birdies.
Currently ranked 6th in the women’s world golf rankings, the American prodigy will face the biggest threat from the defending champ Webb.
Webb is determined to repeat her magic form this year too. Creamer is well aware how the match slipped out of her hands due largely to the skills of the Aussie star.
The fearsome field is not limited to players like Webb, Na Yeon Choi, who currently ranks 2nd in the world golf rankings, will also be on the field.
It remains to be seen how the 25-year-old Creamer will player among big names.
The Founders Cup gives a substantial portion of the purse to charities—something Creamer appreciated in a statement last year.
“I have a strong belief and hope that this event will transition to a full-field regular event in future years, with the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf as our annual charitable component, much like what all of our other LPGA events do with their respective charities,”
she wrote in her email to Golf Channel.
