Paula Creamer finishes tied for 9th at LPGA Championship 2012
American Paula Creamer shot a 71 in the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, as she finished tied for the 9th spot along with two other contenders.
Creamer played a decent game at the second major tournament of the current season, held at Locust Hill Country Club, New York, but tumbled to a lower position in the last two rounds.
The field was quite strong, as it featured competent LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders such as the current world number one Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Ai Miyazato, Karrie Webb of Australia, Sandra Gal,
American Cristie Kerr and Brittany Lincicome.
Analysts said that the spectators had pinned hopes on the American star, as she has been seeking to regain her lost glory in professional golf. However, Creamer finished better than most of the other big names.
Yani Tseng, who was defending her title at the LPGA Championship 2012, got off to a lacklustre start and finished tied for the 59th place.
Creamer got off to a sensible start, as she fired a 70 in the opening round. She was standing at tie-4 at the end of the first round. She improved her position in the second round, jumping to the tie-2.
The rising star kicked off the final round in an impressive style, as she fired a birdie on the par-5 4th hole. She faltered on the difficult par-3 9th. On the back nine, she recorded only one birdie, but remained flawless, as she avoided
making careless strokes.
Speaking to the media at the end of concluding round, Creamer said that she is not unhappy with her performance — but not thrilled either. She said that she tried her best, but a few lapses in the last rounds put a dent in her score on the leaderboard.
“A rather frustrating finish. Yes, I definitely had given myself many, many opportunities out there today. I was close a lot of the time, but I just kind of put the ball in difficult spots.  A lot of big left-to-right putts,” the American prodigy said.
“It's hard on this golf course constantly when you are giving yourself that.  But I hit the ball well.  Definitely like I said, I had a chance, that's for sure”.
