Paula Creamer inside top 10 in first round in Taiwan
American Paula Creamer got off to a sensible start at the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012 as she shot a 69 to stand inside the top 10.
Creamer might not have been able to end her victory drought in the current season, but she is determined to prove her mettle this time and has said in her interview that she will try to win
in Taiwan.
It remains to be seen how she tackles the pressure playing among big names like Norwegian Suzann Pettersen and the defending champion Yani Tseng.
The American star kicked off the round at Sunrise Golf & Country Club on Thursday with a clear strategy as she parred the first five holes. She then drained her first birdie on the par-5 6th
hole.
On the 8th hole, Creamer could not judge the ball on the greens and ended up registering a bogey.
On the back nine, she displayed a much more sensible game as she steered clear of bogeys. She shot birdies on the 10th and 15th hole.
Commentators said that the first round went well for most of the players as they scored big to find strong positions on the leaderboard. However, the next three rounds will be more crucial.
South Korean Inbee Park posted a 65 in the first round to grab an early lead. Park, who has already been regarded as the hot favourite by most of the experts, displayed a solid performance
on all the holes, shooting seven birdies and no bogey.
On the other hand, Yani Tseng also lived up to the expectations of her Taiwanese fans as she registered a 67 to take the second position.
Tseng got off to a bit slow start, but she swept inside the top 10 on the back nine after she launched three consecutive birdies on 13th to 15th hole.
Creamer has made certain that she is in contention, but the LPGA titan will likely face a tough competition in the second and third round.
“Most importantly it’s nice to come with all of the fans. Last year I heard that there was just so many people. That’s going to be exciting to come out and play in front of all of these fans,”
Creamer said during her pre-tournament interview on Tuesday.
