Paula Creamer
A California girl, Paula Creamer and the US Golf queen, also known as the Pink Panther because of her obsession for pink colour as she always wears something of the colour pink, which makes her quite a hottie on the golf course. At times, she even uses a pink golf ball, recently won the 65th US Women’s Open on Sunday. This was Creamer’s first major victory after her last years thumb injury.
The 23 years old US golfer got her left thumb badly injured during last year’s LPGA Championship that was held in Houston. However, at the age of 21, Creamer had won LPGA eight times but after her recent thumb injury, it was speculated that Creamer might not be able to play golf again. She herself did not expect to perform well.
"I had my surgery, and yes, there was a time before my surgery where I thought, 'Oh, my god, I may never play golf again' or, you know, if the surgery goes wrong.
It just shows how much the mental side of golf can really take over. I believed I could do this when I had a cast on my hand. Paula Creamer with her left thumb injury recovered only about 60 percent; she won the US Women’s Open title by four strokes at Oakmont country club. By this victory, creamer claimed her first major victory.
Paula Creamer played 23 holes on Sunday. During the event, Creamer practiced a few strokes before each round and in order to minimize pain and discomfort, Creamer took few strokes. It is believed that the rain on Friday proved to be very useful for Creamer. As heavy rain slowed down course greens, it helped in making better scores. Creamer’s two shots that proved to change the match were Number 7 and 8 putts. Creamer with her marvellous shots surprised all viewers and defeated Choi and Song-Hee Kim. Choi played the second best round of the event and Song-Hee Kim she also played very well.
Christie Kerr won LPGA Championship by her 12 shots and Paula Creamer after two weeks won with her determination and strong mind.
Some changes have been observed in Paula Creamer’s performance after her surgery. Now creamer has started playing stronger from the right side.
Creamer said her win shows how important mental stability and strength is to the sports. She said. "I don't think that I am even 80 percent fit, I've said this the whole time I think I'm about 60. I believed I could do this when I had a cast on my hand. “That's what I just kept thinking about was Oakmont, Oakmont, Oakmont".
Apparently Creamer practiced really hard in last couple of months and now she is satisfied by her current performance.
Paula Creamer became the first American to win the U.S. Open since Cristie Kerr in 2007 and the second after Meg Mallon's 2004 victory.
"It's incredible, it really is," Creamer said. "It's been amazing."I've always thought of my career as I've always been a pretty solid player, but yes, that question always lurked: How come you never won a major?
"And now we have, and we never get to get asked that question again!"
Paula Creamer is now looking towards the 35th Ricoh Women's British Open, at Royal Birkdale Golf Club and will be held on July 29 to August 1. Creamer will be the favourite as in the last three Women’s British Opens; she has finished in the top ten.
Paula Creamer said:"I am really looking forward to returning to the UK, I finished third last year at Royal Lytham and I really feel like I've learned a lot about playing links golf since I finished 15th at Royal Birkdale back in 2005”.
Paula Creamer will face tough competition from the world's best women golfers, particularly from the World Number 1 Cristie Kerr, Catriona Matthew, Jiyai Shin.
For now, Paula Creamer has proved that determination and hard work pays off the golfer fans all around the world wish Cramer best of luck.
