Paula Creamer says Jiyai Shin played well at Kingsmill Championship
American Paula Creamer lost the Kingsmill Championship to South Korean Jiyai Shin, after she carded a bogey on the ninth extra hole in sudden death playoff on Monday.
Creamer fought hard till the last moment of the Kingsmill Championship, held at Williamsburg, Virginia, but a mistake on the par-4 18th hole in playoff cost her the prestigious title.
Supported by massive crowd at Williamsburg, Creamer was brimming with confidence when the match stretched into playoff after she and Shin carded an overall 268 in the fourth round on Sunday.
Now that another LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament has gone without witnessing an American contender clinching the title, the coming events are likely to be tougher as players will be under intense scrutiny.
Creamer may have failed to rack up the title at Williamsburg, but she appeared to be calm and composed at the end of the match.
Speaking to the media after Shin hoisted the trophy on Monday, the American star said that she knew that the match was going to be tough, but no player had thought the match would enter into its fifth day.
Creamer pointed out that she kicked off the 2012 season in impressive style and has been in a great form.
However, losing an event to Shin was something she had never thought, as the South Korean star has not been able to display a good performance for the past several months.
“The way this year's gone and I've overcome a lot of things, it's like I said, it's hard to come down to one hole," she shared.
"But it was going to be a mistake, I think, that was going to have to ‑‑ unfortunately with Jiyai, she's such a straight player, but she hasn't won either for two years so you never know.  She played well and I had to make a putt,” Creamer further said.
The LPGA phenom appreciated the crowd, saying the support she received from the American spectators on Monday morning was overwhelming.
However, unfortunately the match could not last longer as she and Shin played just one extra hole.
“I couldn't believe how many people were out there, that feels great.  I wasn't expecting that,” the American golfer said.
