Paula Creamer says putting will matter most at US Women's Open 2012
American Paula Creamer, who is gearing up for a star-studded battle at the US Women’s Open 2012, has said that good putting is what will matter the most at the major tournament set to be staged this week at Blackwolf Run, Kohler.
Creamer is among the hot favourite contenders for the Open, but it remains to be seen how the American star faces pressure on the course, as she has been struggling to regain her lost momentum for the last several months.
Creamer was speaking to the media about her plans for the most prestigious LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament.
She said that the field is featuring plenty of big names, but what will make a difference on the course this week, is putting.
The American prodigy, who is known for her putting, is making all-out efforts to get back on track once again. Winless since her last major triumph at the US Women’s Open 2010, the 25-year-old golfer is focusing on winning a title this year.
Mentioning the course, Creamer said that Kohler may prove to be quite challenging, and players may not find it easy to make solid putts. She said that greens play a vital role in helping players make good strokes.
“I think the best putter will win this week. Off the tee, it's not very difficult. It's not really -- you don't have to think very much with certain shots. I think it's more of the approach shot into greens. These are probably the biggest greens I think I've ever played,” the golfing sensation said.
“I'm sure the USGA is going to make pin placements difficult. There are so many tee boxes out here that they can do what they want with the golf course. But I'm really looking forward to it. It's in good shape”.
She went on to say that she has improved her game greatly in the last couple of months, and this is what will help her do something brilliant at Kohler this week.
Creamer pointed out that ever since she made the much-needed changes to her playing style and putting, she has seen good results. She added that the pressure of the major tournament is immense, but she will keep a close eye on every hole.
