Paula Kania
blue rains on Paulína Petrisková
in 1st round – Slovak Open 2011
Polish Paula Kania got rid of Slovakian wildcard entrant Paulína Petrisková in the first round of the Slovak Open 2011.
On indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia, both rivals took up the sword and after just fifty five minutes the Pole sent the Slovak wildcard entrant packing by thrashing her in straight sets
of 6-0, 6-2 on Wednesday the 16th of November 2011.
The first set of the match was a quick flawless victory for the Pole. Although she had played zero aces, she managed a few backhand and forehand winners. Moreover, she had one less double fault than Petrisková and even though,
she hit only 55 percent of her first serves on target, she expertly accomplished a 67 percent of her first service points.
In addition, her defence was strong and she skilfully achieved to save all the three breakpoints and instead, capitalized on a 60 percent of her breakpoints won.
On the contrary, Petrisková did not play the match with great enthusiasm and was unable to stick it out. She was not able to all her breakpoints and in addition was also not capable of utilizing any of the breakpoints to her advantage.
Moreover, she had not only had a pitiable service game but also a pathetic return game which restricted her to only winning 36 percent of her total return points in the opening set.
Serving for the initial round was Petrisková and she got off to a bad start as she was unable to hold her serve in the first game. She again double faulted in the third game and allowed her adversary to reel three consecutive games.
Mean while, Kania was able to not only reel off her service games but also got the opportunity to steal her adversaries service games and in doing so she clogged the opening set with a breadstick victory.
Inaugurating the second set of the match was Petrisková and she once again got off to a poor start as she was unable to hold her first and second service game which resulted in Kania scooping away three successive games against
her. Subsequently, in the next two games the players exchanged breaks and at the end of the fifth game the score had shifted to 4-1.
During the sixth game Kania was only a game away from her victory but she was unable to close the set immediately in the following game. However, she managed to do so in the second match point by restricting her adversary to only
two games, she sealed her victory of the set and the match.
The pole will now be facing fifth seeded Slovak Karolína Plíšková in the second round of the event.
