Paula Radcliffe set to run the Berlin Marathon – Athletics news
Paula Radcliffe, the 37-year-old veteran long distance runner from England, who is the current world record holder in Women’s marathon competitions for the time clocked two hours, 15 minutes and 25 seconds, is all set to run the Berlin marathon this year.
For athletics fans and spectators, the event would prove to be a dream come true as witnessing the world’s fastest woman marathon runner on the fastest track in the world will have its’ own thrill. However, considering the fact that lately she has not been
in a condition to finish-off with a 42.195km track easily, the showdown in German capital also has a chance to turn down viewers’ expectations from the English runner.
According to Radcliffe, long distances races, lately, have not been less than disasters. Not to speak of long distance contests, as while lining up for a 10km competition, the veteran athlete ended up bagging a third position.
However, the three-time winner of the London Marathon and a two-time victor of the New York Marathon, who also bagged the Chicago Marathon in 2002,will need to finish her race in Berlin in no later than two hours and 20 minutes to eclipse her competitors.
Doing so, to her, is important from another perspective, as only a success will pave way for her entrance to the London Olympics in 2012.
Thus, the 38th edition of the BMW Berlin Marathon, which is regarded as an IAAF Gold Label Road Race, is going to witness a nerve testing contest for one of the most cherished woman marathon runner in the world.
Commenting upon the run, the Briton said, “I’ve watched the race on television, and I’ve run a little bit in Berlin in the Past, so I’m really looking forward to the experience.”
On a track that is considered to be kind for runners, Radcliffe will probably be challenged by German runner, Irina Mikitenko, who was the sheer dominator of London marathon and Berlin marathon back in 2008. However, just like her English counterpart, Mikitenko
too had recovered from an injury, and she too has to test her skills before the victor of the event prevails in the meet.
