Paulie Malignaggi: I am very fortunate and blessed to be part of this team – Boxing News
WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi spoke his heart out yesterday at a press conference for his Saturday engagement against Pablo Cano. Malignaggi revealed how happy he is being part of the team and performing at Madison Square Garden.
“I am very fortunate and blessed to be part of this team. I get to reap the rewards through my hard work to now be a part of this tremendous show. It’s pretty incredible,” said Malignaggi, who believes he is old yet he has everything to be the champion.
“You grow up and everybody wants to have a big fight in their hometown. Growing up in New York, the thing that we always dreamed about was Madison Square Garden, but it was because we did not have something like the Barclays Center to dream about. Now we
do. I feel so happy,” he added.
Malignaggi will be defending his title against Pablo Cesar Cano. While Malignaggi believes he is ready to give it a go, Cano claims the welterweight champion made a huge mistake selecting him as his opponent. According to Cano, he is ready and he will surely
be the next welterweight champion.
Malignaggi believes his defeat to Briton fighter Amir Khan was a devastating one, which pushed him back in time. Now, he is ready to give his a career a boost. He is ready to face the fiercest warriors out there and to prove that he indeed is the number
one welterweight now.
In a previous interview, Malignaggi claimed that he was going through a rough patch in his career due to which his recent performances were not at par. Now, according to Paulie, everything is back to normal. He appreciated his team saying he has positive
people all around him who motivate him towards the betterment.
For now, Malignaggi wants to score an impressive victory over Cano in order to show the world he still is the number one welterweight in the world. However, considering fighters like Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather in the division, one could say Malignaggi
still has a long way to go to become the best.
