Paulie Malignaggi: I think I’m a better fighter – Boxing News
Brooklyn native Paulie Malignaggi believes he is a better fighter as he has learned a lot from his mistakes. According to Malignaggi, he now has a better team and even though he is old, he has the ‘positive energy’ to move on in his career. The former IBF
light welterweight spoke to the media about his upcoming fight against Pablo Cesar. He will be defending his WBA welterweight championship.
“I think I’m a better fighter because I’ve learned a lot of things and I’ve got a great team,” said Malignaggi. “And I think that makes me a better fighter. When you learn from your mistakes and … yourself with a great team and great people around you, I
think that makes you a better fighter.”
According to Malignaggi, the team he currently has was not there with him some years back, which is the biggest regret of his career. Malignaggi believes if he had the same team back then he could have had a better career then what he has now.
“The one regret is I didn’t have it around me when I was 25 or 26, because I think I would have been a monster, and I think I underachieved in that way.”
When asked about his preparations, the welterweight champion iterated that he judges his opponents in the ring based on how they fight. According to the Brooklynite, he is a well rounded fighter, that is he can be defensive as well as offensive.
Malignaggi added that once he is in the ring with his opponent, he then decides how to play. If the opponent lacks aggression and offence, Malignaggi believes it is his job to go forth and attack.
For now, the former IBF champion is confident that he will defend his championship against Cesar in a rather impressive manner. According to Malignaggi, he has positive people around him which gives him the necessary positive energy to move on. He believes
he still has a lot to do in his career and he will prove it to the world against Cesar.
Malignaggi won his last fight against Vyacheslav Senchenko to win the WBA welterweight title.
