Paulie Malignaggi confident of victory over Vyacheslav Senchenko – Boxing News
Paulie Malignaggi, former IBF junior welterweight champion, will be challenging the current WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko this Sunday at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine. The event will be televised live on Integrated Sports Media.
Paulie ‘Magic Man’ Malignaggi arrived in Ukraine earlier today. He was excited and confident for the fight when he said, “I think it’s great because American fans don’t always get an opportunity like this to see fights held overseas. This is a high-level
fight and not expensive pay-per-view. My fans will be able to watch. This is a good style match-up. Fans will see what Paulie Malignaggi has left and if Senchenko is for real. No matter which way you look at it, fans can get together as a group to watch, or
order it individually at home. Boxing fans want to see world title fights and this one they’ll see me beat Senchenko.”
Malignaggi came to the Ukraine right from his training camp in Milan. The fight between Malignaggi and Senchenko is being presented by Union Boxing Promotion. Also on the PPV event will be four 12-round fights including Iago Kildaze’s title defense against
Julien Perriauz.
While talking to reporters about his plans for the fight, Malignaggi said that his fans are eager to see him beat his opponent on Sunday. He added that this match will actually show fans how good he is and what really Senchenko is.
The lead up to the match has been quite fascinating. Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, who has trained Senchenko, had previously said, “(Senchenko) has a faster jab than Paulie Malignaggi.”
Responding to Roach’s comments, Malignaggi just said, “if he thinks so.” However, Freddie had much more to say after Malignaggi responded to him. Later on, Freddie said that Senchenko is a very capable boxer with a good grip on techniques. He added that
Senchenko’s height and his punching power will be his edge over Malignaggi. Lastly, Roach said that Senchenko’s jab is his main weapon and that he will use it to the utmost to bring Malignaggi down and that his jab is way faster than Malignaggi.
